Create a Hijab Style:

Have you ever looked at a hijab-clad girl, and been impressed with how put together she looks? Have you ever wondered how she does it? How does everything look so neat? Why doesn’t anything look wrinkled, clumsy, or out of place?

If you’re a hijabi, you want to look elegant, modest, and fashionable.

Every hijabi has her on tricks on how to achieve that. Now that I’ve been wearing the hijab myself for over 10 years now, I’ve learned a few tricks.

Pin it up nice and tight

Believe it or not, it’s all about how you pin your hijab to keep everything in place. No matter how pretty your hijab is, if it is not pinned properly, chances are that everything is going to look eventually fall apart as the day proceeds, and look clumsy. So, load up on hijab pins and broaches.

Own one of each color

Yannick Bammert/Wikipedia

Whether you want to match your hijab with your outfit or go with contrasting colors, it always helps to have a variety of colors in your wardrobe. It doesn’t matter whether you like floral patterns or solids, get a variety of colors so you’ll always have something that matches.

Start with a cap

If you fix your scarf over a stylish cap, it reduces the chance of it falling apart by a lot. Stock up on caps.

Own hijabs for both casual and formal occasions

Get those lacy, net scarves for formal occasions and some simple, cozy ones for everyday use. If you are going to be a stylish hijabi, you’ve gotta have something for every occasion. So do some shopping and invest on your looks. Trust me, it’s going to pay off.

Try different styles

No matter how many different kinds and colors of hijabs you own, if you wear it in the same style every day, it’s going to get a little dull. Don’t wait for later–spice up your look with new hijab styles today! There are plenty of tutorials online. Try a few and pick the ones that suit you best.

6. Don’t lose the essence

The essence of hijab is modesty, so make sure the rest of your outfit covers your body properly. Wearing a hijab with an immodest outfit just looks a little (read: a lot) awkward.

Accessorize

Accessories can take your outfit to the next level. Wear stylish long boots, heels, statement necklaces, and bangle bracelets that go with your hijab to achieve that perfect look.

8. Express yourself through your style

Be unique. Match your hijab and outfit to your moods and personality. Don’t be afraid to stand out.

9. Stay up to date

Being a fashionable hijabi is about amalgamation of tradition and modern trends. So don’t think that modern trends are not for you. Think up of ways to wear modern styles with your hijab.

Miss England Contestant wears Hijab

A Muslim student has become the first Miss England contestant to compete in the final stages of the pageant while wearing a hijab.

Sara Iftekhar, a 20-year-old law student from West Yorkshire, was crowned Miss Huddersfield earlier this year. She competed against 49 other contestants at the Miss England finals on September 4 in the hope of representing the country at the Miss World contest, which is taking place on December 8 in Sanya, China.

There have been previous instances of women taking part in the qualifying rounds of the Miss England pageant wearing hijabs.

However, Iftekhar is the first hijab-wearing contestant to have been named a finalist.

Writing on her Instagram page, on which she’s garnered more than 5,000 followers, the law student explained how excited she felt to have been able to compete in the Miss England pageant leading up to the finals.

“It was an incredible experience and something which I will never be able to forget,” she wrote. “The opportunities which I have received with being a finalist in Miss England are opportunities which I would never have thought of, and will forever be grateful for.”

She also set up a fundraising page for children’s charity Beauty with a Purpose, which was created by the Miss England organisation.

Iftekhar is a law student and founded her own clothing business at the age of 16 (SWNS)

“I participated in Miss 2018 in order to show that beauty doesn’t have a definition,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page, which has currently raised £330 out of a goal of £500.

“Everyone is beautiful in their own ways, regardless of their weight, race, colour or shape.”

American Muslim Fashion

American Muslim Fashion Designers Changing the Fashion World

For Muslim women all around the world, dressing modestly while still keeping it stylish can be a challenge for some, due to the lack of fashion brands available for them. High fashion labels such as Nike and Dolce & Gabbana have definitely kick started the trend of introducing hijabs to the fashion world but more is certainly needed if Islamic fashion is going to make it big-time in the land of glitz and glamour. It is also ironic that the fashion industry has only recently cottoned on about how important it is to start designing and creating edgy clothes for Muslim women, when according to the 2015-2016 State of the Global Islamic Economy Report, Muslim consumers spend $230 billion on clothing.

Never the less, there are certainly some women making a difference to the industry. They are Muslim American women and they not only aim to design beautiful and eye-catching clothes that Muslim women can wear, but also to support and empower women all over the world.

Haute Hijab

Melanie Elturk is the woman behind the online label, Haute Hijab, which offers women chic, modest fashion. Elturk aims to be a role model for young Muslim women and fill them with confidence through her fashion line. Originally from Detroit, Elturk’s inspiration for Haute Hijab came from her experience working with Muslim youth. In this time, Elturk noticed how big the struggle was for girls wearing the hijab, but also for girls who weren’t wearing the hijab. She created Haute Hijab out of necessity, to not only design trendy hijab-friendly clothing that many young women were proud to wear, but to also be an inspiration.
VELA

The brain child behind VELA is Marwa Atik. Originally a nursing student, Atik designed her own line of scarves in 2009. One day in class, her classmate caught her doodling atypical hijab designs and encouraged her to start designing hijabs herself. She created her first zipper-edged headscarf and that was the start of VELA. Atik takes headscarves to a whole new level by incorporating zips, ruffles, petals and feathers into her designs. In fact, over time she found that women of all faiths were coming to her for her scarves, not just Muslim women.

Styled by Zubaidah

Styled by Zubaidah was born in 2013 by designer Zubaidah Abdul-Hakim. The label was inspired by her own struggles to find clothes for a curvy Muslim woman and she wanted other young Muslim girls to feel accepted and confident. She thinks it is very important not to judge someone by the way they dress, because you don’t know what they have been through or why they make particular fashion choices.

Austere Attire

Austere Attire is an LA-based headscarf brand for the everyday modest Muslim women. They have combined the ‘Cali vibe’ while also being ‘put together’. Everyone that has worked on the brand has been female, from designers to marketing experts. They believe in female empowerment and a real sense of sisterhood.

Nzinga Knight

Nzinga Knight is a New York-based fashion designer. Having studied design at Pratt, she aims to instil confidence in young women through modern clothing that is never boring. She was the first American Muslim ‘Hijabi’ contestant on Project Runway.

LOUELLA

Ibtihaj Muhammad was the first American athlete to win an Olympic medal in a hijab and she also happens to be the owner of fashion label, LOUELLA. Taking home a bronze medal from the recent Olympic Games in Rio, Muhammad aims to design clothes that are both stylish and modern.
